China Refined Soybean Oil Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the refined soybean oil price amounted to $1,642 per ton (FOB, China), declining by -8.3% against the previous month. Over the last eight-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 an increase of 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $1,790 per ton in August 2022, and then dropped in the following month.
Average prices varied somewhat for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the countries with the highest prices were Singapore ($2,157 per ton) and South Korea ($1,753 per ton), while the average price for exports to Vietnam ($1,549 per ton) and Hong Kong SAR ($1,557 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+2.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Refined Soybean Oil Exports
In September 2022, approximately 2.9K tons of refined soybean oil and its fractions were exported from China; shrinking by -40.4% against August 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 184% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 10K tons in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, refined soybean oil exports contracted sharply to $4.8M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a moderate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 194% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 16K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
China Refined Soybean Oil Exports by Country
Hong Kong SAR (1.9K tons) was the main destination for refined soybean oil exports from China, accounting for a 65% share of total exports. Moreover, refined soybean oil exports to Hong Kong SAR exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (540 tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Myanmar (95 tons), with a 3.3% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Hong Kong SAR totaled -1.7%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (+48.6% per month) and Myanmar (+16.7% per month).
In value terms, Hong Kong SAR ($2.9M) remains the key foreign market for refined soybean oil exports from China, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Korea ($946K), with a 20% share of total exports. It was followed by Singapore, with a 3.6% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Hong Kong SAR was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (+46.7% per month) and Singapore (-7.3% per month).
