China Refractory Bricks, Blocks and Tiles Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the refractory bricks, blocks and tiles price stood at $902 per ton (FOB, China), falling by -6.1% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 10% against the previous month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $1,001 per ton. From March 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($1,189 per ton), while the average price for exports to Indonesia ($552 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+2.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; n.e.s. in item no. 6902.1 or 6902.2 ($1,439 per ton), while the average price for exports of refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these ($779 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; n.e.s. in item no. 6902.1 or 6902.2 (+1.7%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.

China Refractory Bricks, Blocks and Tiles Exports

In September 2022, overseas shipments of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles decreased by -11.4% to 186K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after three months of growth. In general, exports showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 23% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 242K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports reduced markedly to $168M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 28% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $224M. From August 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these (with a CAGR of -1.5%), while the other products experienced a decline.

In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these ($83M), refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 ($74M) and refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; n.e.s. in item no. 6902.1 or 6902.2 ($11M) constituted the most exported types of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles from China worldwide.

Refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these, with a CAGR of -0.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced a decline.

China Refractory Bricks, Blocks and Tiles Exports by Country

Indonesia (49K tons) was the main destination for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports from China, with a 26% share of total exports. Moreover, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exports to Indonesia exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, South Korea (19K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was taken by India (15K tons), with an 8% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Indonesia stood at -4.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (-4.7% per month) and India (+1.5% per month).

In value terms, the largest markets for refractory bricks, blocks and tiles exported from China were Indonesia ($27M), Japan ($16M) and South Korea ($16M), with a combined 35% share of total exports. India, Russia, Turkey, Vietnam, Malaysia, Germany, the United States, Brazil and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 33%.

Turkey, with a CAGR of +18.2%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
