U.S. Refractory Bricks, Blocks and Tiles Import Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the refractory bricks, blocks and tiles price per ton amounted to $1.8K (CIF, US), falling by -5.7% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to July 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 an increase of 15% m-o-m. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $2.0K per ton. From March 2022 to July 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was India ($2.7K per ton), while the price for Vietnam ($1.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Brazil (+21.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these ($2.5K per ton), while the price for refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 ($1.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 (+3.4%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Refractory Bricks, Blocks and Tiles Imports
Refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports into the United States dropped to 9.1K tons in August 2022, declining by -13% on July 2022 figures. Over the period under review, imports showed a mild descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 36% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 13K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports fell to $17M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 23% m-o-m. As a result, imports reached the peak of $23M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In August 2022, refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 (5.6K tons) constituted the largest type of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles supplied to the United States, accounting for a 62% share of total imports. Moreover, refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these (2.7K tons), twofold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 was relatively modest. With regard to the other supplied products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these (-1.6% per month) and refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; n.e.s. in item no. 6902.1 or 6902.2 (-6.7% per month).
In value terms, refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight, singly or together, more than 50% of the elements mg, ca or cr, expressed as mgo, cao or cr2o3 ($7.8M), refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; containing by weight more than 50% of alumina (al2o3), of silica (sio2) or of a mixture or compound of these ($6.8M) and refractory bricks, blocks, tiles and similar refractory ceramic constructional goods; n.e.s. in item no. 6902.1 or 6902.2 ($1.9M) appeared to be the most imported types of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles in the United States.
U.S. Refractory Bricks, Blocks and Tiles Imports by Country
Spain (1.9K tons), Germany (1.8K tons) and China (1.7K tons) were the main suppliers of refractory bricks, blocks and tiles imports to the United States, with a combined 51% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, Canada, Mexico, Turkey, India, Vietnam, the Netherlands, Italy, Brazil and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 43%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Slovakia (with a CAGR of +24.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest refractory bricks, blocks and tiles suppliers to the United States were Germany ($3.2M), China ($2.8M) and Spain ($2.6M), with a combined 44% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Austria, Mexico, Canada, India, the Netherlands, Italy, Brazil, Turkey, Vietnam and Slovakia, which together accounted for a further 47%.
Slovakia, with a CAGR of +29.7%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
