Refrigerator and Freezer Prices in China

China Refrigerator and Freezer Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the refrigerator and freezer price amounted to $8.9 per unit (FOB, China), rising by 2.5% against the previous month. Overall, the export price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in July 2022 an increase of 5.6% month-to-month. The export price peaked in September 2022.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($22.8 per unit), while the average price for exports to Mexico ($4.7 per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+2.0%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Refrigerator and Freezer Export Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was combined refrigerators-freezers ($236 per unit), while the average price for exports of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) amounted to $4.1 per unit.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: non-combined refrigerator-freezer (+0.7%).

China Refrigerator and Freezer Exports

In September 2022, the amount of refrigerators and freezers exported from China declined to 63M units, with a decrease of -11% compared with the previous month's figure. In general, exports continue to indicate a noticeable setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 35% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 98M units. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, refrigerator and freezer exports dropped to $565M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports saw a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 32% against the previous month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $836M. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

China Refrigerator and Freezer Exports by Type

Household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) (62M units) was the largest type of refrigerator and freezer exported from China, with a 98% share of total exports. It was followed by combined refrigerators-freezers (1.3M units), with a 2% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) amounted to -4.8%.

In value terms, combined refrigerators-freezers ($307M) and household refrigerators and freezers (not combined) ($258M) appeared to be the most exported types of refrigerators and freezers from China worldwide.

In terms of the main product categories, non-combined refrigerator-freezer, with a CAGR of -4.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review.

China Refrigerator and Freezer Exports by Country

The United States (14M units) was the main destination for refrigerator and freezer exports from China, accounting for a 22% share of total exports. Moreover, refrigerator and freezer exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (3.3M units), fourfold. Russia (2.8M units) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 4.4% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States totaled -7.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the UK (-3.4% per month) and Russia (+4.7% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($114M) remains the key foreign market for refrigerator and freezer exports from China, comprising 20% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Japan ($54M), with a 9.6% share of total exports. It was followed by South Korea, with a 6.6% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States totaled -6.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Japan (-4.1% per month) and South Korea (+5.6% per month).
