U.S. Resistor Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the average resistor price amounted to $15 per thousand units, dropping by -9.4% against the previous month. Overall, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 7.5% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $17 per thousand units in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Israel ($24 per thousand units), while the price for Malaysia ($1.1 per thousand units) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Resistor Imports
In August 2022, imports of electrical resistors (except heating resistors) into the United States rose markedly to 7.4B units, picking up by 7.5% compared with the month before. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed in certain months. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 16% m-o-m. Imports peaked in August 2022.
In value terms, resistor imports dropped modestly to $108M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 17% month-to-month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $116M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Resistor Imports by Country
In August 2022, Malaysia (2.7B units) constituted the largest supplier of resistor to the United States, with a 37% share of total imports. Moreover, resistor imports from Malaysia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, China (1.2B units), twofold. Taiwan (Chinese) (1.1B units) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Malaysia amounted to +4.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: China (-0.7% per month) and Taiwan (Chinese) (+4.4% per month).
In value terms, China ($15M), Taiwan (Chinese) ($12M) and Japan ($11M) were the largest resistor suppliers to the United States, with a combined 35% share of total imports. Israel, Malaysia, Thailand and the Philippines lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 16%.
Thailand, with a CAGR of +11.0%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
