U.S. Saccharin Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the saccharin price per ton stood at $11.1K (CIF, US), reducing by -7.9% against the previous month. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 22% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the maximum at $12.0K per ton in July 2022, and then declined in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($13.9K per ton), while the price for Thailand ($8.2K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Thailand (+8.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Saccharin Imports
For the third consecutive month, the United States recorded decline in overseas purchases of saccharin and its salts, which decreased by -3.4% to 196 tons in August 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, posted strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 176% m-o-m. As a result, imports attained the peak of 307 tons. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, saccharin imports contracted to $2.2M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, imports, however, saw strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 183% month-to-month. As a result, imports attained the peak of $3.5M. From June 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
U.S. Saccharin Imports by Country
South Korea (85 tons), India (60 tons) and China (35 tons) were the main suppliers of saccharin imports to the United States, with a combined 92% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Thailand, which accounted for a further 8.1%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Thailand (with a CAGR of +4,344.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, South Korea ($1.2M) constituted the largest supplier of saccharin to the United States, comprising 55% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($533K), with a 25% share of total imports. It was followed by China, with a 15% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from South Korea amounted to +6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: India (+29.6% per month) and China (-8.4% per month).
