China Sheep And Goat Meat Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the sheep and goat meat price amounted to $5,365 per ton (CIF, China), shrinking by -3% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price saw a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in May 2022 when the average import price increased by 2.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $6,422 per ton in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was New Zealand ($5,637 per ton), while the price for Uruguay ($4,615 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (-2.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Sheep And Goat Meat Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was lamb and sheep meat ($5,365 per ton), while the price for goat meat totaled $5,182 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by goat meat (+2.3%).
China Sheep And Goat Meat Imports
In September 2022, approximately 29K tons of sheep and goat meat were imported into China; with an increase of 10% compared with the month before. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 33% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 38K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sheep and goat meat imports rose remarkably to $158M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 31% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 242K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In September 2022, lamb and sheep meat (29K tons) was the main type of sheep and goat meat supplied to China, accounting for a 99.9% share of total imports. It was followed by goat meat (3.3 tons), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of lamb and sheep meat stood at -3.2%.
In value terms, lamb and sheep meat ($158M) constituted the largest type of sheep and goat meat supplied to China, comprising 99.9% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by goat meat ($17K), with less than 0.1% share of total imports.

New Zealand (16K tons), Australia (13K tons) and Uruguay (413 tons) were the main suppliers of sheep and goat meat imports to China, together comprising 100% of total imports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by New Zealand (with a CAGR of -2.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced a decline.
In value terms, New Zealand ($92M), Australia ($64M) and Uruguay ($1.9M) were the largest sheep and goat meat suppliers to China, with a combined 100% share of total imports.
In terms of the main suppliers, New Zealand, with a CAGR of -4.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced a decline.
