China Skim Milk Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the skim milk price stood at $783 per ton (CIF, China), increasing by 7.1% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.1%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% m-o-m. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $796 per ton. From May 2022 to September 2022, the average import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the countries with the highest prices were New Zealand ($900 per ton) and Poland ($841 per ton), while the price for Austria ($694 per ton) and Australia ($742 per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Germany (+2.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Skim Milk Imports
In September 2022, purchases abroad of skim milk was finally on the rise to reach 6.9K tons after two months of decline. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 with an increase of 36% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 12K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, skim milk imports rose significantly to $5.4M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when imports increased by 40% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 7.7K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
China Skim Milk Imports by Country
In September 2022, Germany (4.7K tons) constituted the largest supplier of skim milk to China, accounting for a 67% share of total imports. Moreover, skim milk imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, New Zealand (1.4K tons), threefold. Australia (394 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 5.7% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Germany totaled -6.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+0.1% per month) and Australia (-11.7% per month).
In value terms, Germany ($3.5M) constituted the largest supplier of skim milk to China, comprising 64% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by New Zealand ($1.3M), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Australia, with a 5.4% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Germany amounted to -4.3%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: New Zealand (+2.2% per month) and Australia (-12.4% per month).
