China Sparkling Wine Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the sparkling wine price amounted to $11.4 per litre (CIF, China), which is down by -10.8% against the previous month. In general, the import price saw a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in August 2022 an increase of 62% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $15.4 per litre in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was France ($32.0 per litre), while the price for Spain ($2.7 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (-2.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
China Sparkling Wine Imports
Sparkling wine imports into China contracted dramatically to 510K litres in September 2022, with a decrease of -17.2% compared with the previous month. Over the period under review, imports showed a pronounced decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 61% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 917K litres in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sparkling wine imports plummeted to $5.8M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports showed a drastic downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 77% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 11M litres in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Sparkling Wine Imports by Country
Italy (232K litres), France (138K litres) and Spain (97K litres) were the main suppliers of sparkling wine imports to China, together comprising 92% of total imports. These countries were followed by Germany, which accounted for a further 3.5%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +3.5%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, France ($4.4M) constituted the largest supplier of sparkling wine to China, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Italy ($853K), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Spain, with a 4.5% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from France amounted to -7.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Italy (-8.2% per month) and Spain (-10.6% per month).
