China Spirits And Liqueurs Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the spirits and liqueurs price stood at $20.6 per litre (CIF, China), increasing by 24% against the previous month. In general, import price indicated a measured increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its price increased at an average monthly rate of +4.1% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, spirits and liqueurs import price increased by +23.7% against August 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in June 2022 when the average import price increased by 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs in September 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was France ($38.2 per litre), while the price for South Korea ($1.7 per litre) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by the UK (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Spirits And Liqueurs Imports
In September 2022, purchases abroad of spirits, liqueurs and other spirituous beverages decreased by -14.8% to 9.9M litres, falling for the second month in a row after two months of growth. Overall, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 15% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 12M litres in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, spirits and liqueurs imports expanded notably to $205M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total imports indicated pronounced growth from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.8% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports decreased by -12.0% against July 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when imports increased by 41% m-o-m. Imports peaked at 233M litres in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Spirits And Liqueurs Imports by Country
France (3M litres), the UK (2.4M litres) and South Korea (1.8M litres) were the main suppliers of spirits and liqueurs imports to China, with a combined 73% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Japan, the United States, Ireland, Italy and Germany, which together accounted for a further 18%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Japan (with a CAGR of +10.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, France ($114M) constituted the largest supplier of spirits and liqueurs to China, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by the UK ($50M), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Japan, with a 3.8% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from France stood at +4.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: the UK (+5.0% per month) and Japan (+5.7% per month).
