Stainless Steel Angle Prices in China

China Stainless Steel Angle Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the stainless steel angle price stood at $1,832 per ton (FOB, China), with an increase of 9.2% against the previous month. Overall, the export price enjoyed a temperate expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 137% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3,265 per ton in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the Philippines ($5,051 per ton), while the average price for exports to Lao People's Democratic Republic ($766 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+15.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.

China Stainless Steel Angle Export Prices by Type

Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was steel, stainless ($4,361 per ton), while the average price for exports of steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sections totaled $914 per ton.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: steel, stainless; angles, shapes and sections (+1.3%).

China Stainless Steel Angle Exports

In September 2022, stainless steel angle exports from China contracted markedly to 10K tons, dropping by -41.2% on the previous month's figure. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 116% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 21K tons in February 2022; however, from March 2022 to September 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, stainless steel angle exports fell markedly to $19M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports showed a pronounced contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 76% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 29K tons in August 2022, and then declined markedly in the following month.

China Stainless Steel Angle Exports by Type

Steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sections (7.4K tons) was the largest type of stainless steel angle exported from China, with a 73% share of total exports. Moreover, steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sections exceeded the volume of the second product type, steel, stainless (2.7K tons), threefold.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sections totaled -8.4%.

In value terms, steel, stainless ($12M) and steel, alloy; angles, shapes and sections ($6.8M) appeared to be the most exported types of angles, shapes and sections of stainless steel or other alloy steel from China worldwide.

In terms of the main product categories, steel, stainless; angles, shapes and sections, with a CAGR of +0.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.

China Stainless Steel Angle Exports by Country

South Korea (3.6K tons) was the main destination for stainless steel angle exports from China, with a 36% share of total exports. Moreover, stainless steel angle exports to South Korea exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Vietnam (1.3K tons), threefold. Myanmar (1K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 10% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to South Korea totaled +4.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Vietnam (+2.3% per month) and Myanmar (+37.0% per month).

In value terms, South Korea ($4.7M) emerged as the key foreign market for stainless steel angle exports from China, comprising 25% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the Philippines ($1.4M), with a 7.5% share of total exports. It was followed by Vietnam, with a 7.5% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to South Korea amounted to +1.3%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the Philippines (+12.3% per month) and Vietnam (+1.5% per month).
