China Stranded Wire Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the stranded wire price amounted to $1,936 per ton (FOB, China), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 an increase of 3.5% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $2,020 per ton in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($2,501 per ton), while the average price for exports to Australia ($1,164 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Israel (+9.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Stranded Wire Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands ($12.9 per kg), while the average price for exports of stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated ($1,760 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated (-0.0%), while the prices for the other products experienced a decline.
China Stranded Wire Exports
Stranded wire exports from China dropped slightly to 159K tons in September 2022, reducing by -4.7% on August 2022 figures. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% from January 2022 to September 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 38% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 178K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, stranded wire exports fell to $307M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, total exports indicated a modest increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -14.6% against July 2022 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 43% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at 359K tons in July 2022; however, from August 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Stranded Wire Exports by Type
Stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated (142K tons) was the largest type of stranded wire exported from China, accounting for a 90% share of total exports. Moreover, stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated exceeded the volume of the second product type, aluminium; stranded wire, cables, plaited bands and the like, (not electrically insulated) (16K tons), ninefold.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: aluminium; stranded wire, cables, plaited bands and the like, (not electrically insulated) (+5.1% per month) and copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands (-0.5% per month).
In value terms, stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated ($250M) remains the largest type of stranded wire exported from China, comprising 81% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by aluminium; stranded wire, cables, plaited bands and the like, (not electrically insulated) ($52M), with a 17% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of stranded wire, ropes, cables, plaited bands, slings and the like, of iron or steel, not electrically insulated was relatively modest. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: aluminium; stranded wire, cables, plaited bands and the like, (not electrically insulated) (+4.7% per month) and copper stranded wire, cables and plaited bands (-2.6% per month).
China Stranded Wire Exports by Country
South Korea (16K tons), Vietnam (14K tons) and Thailand (13K tons) were the main destinations of stranded wire exports from China, with a combined 27% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Australia, the United States, India, Japan, Indonesia, the Dominican Republic, Israel, Brazil, the Philippines and Canada, which together accounted for a further 34%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in the Dominican Republic (with a CAGR of +34.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for stranded wire exported from China were South Korea ($23M), Vietnam ($22M) and the United States ($21M), together comprising 22% of total exports. These countries were followed by Thailand, India, Japan, Australia, Indonesia, Israel, the Dominican Republic, Brazil, Canada and the Philippines, which together accounted for a further 35%.
