Sugars Prices in China

China Sugars Export Price in September 2022

In September 2022, the sugars price amounted to $3,744 per ton (FOB, China), increasing by 24% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to September 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.2%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was the United States ($6,250 per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($1,807 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United States (+3.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Sugars Exports

Sugars exports from China reduced to 4.7K tons in September 2022, with a decrease of -8.4% against the month before. In general, exports continue to indicate a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 47% against the previous month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 7.4K tons. From June 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, sugars exports reached $18M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports saw a perceptible decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 30% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 24K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

China Sugars Exports by Country

Russia (675 tons), Japan (597 tons) and the United States (498 tons) were the main destinations of sugars exports from China, with a combined 37% share of total exports.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Russia (with a CAGR of +24.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, the United States ($3.1M) remains the key foreign market for sugars exports from China, comprising 18% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Russia ($1.5M), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 7.8% share.

From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to the United States stood at -9.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Russia (+24.1% per month) and Japan (-4.0% per month).
