China Sulphates Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the sulphates price stood at $161 per ton (FOB, China), waning by -29.8% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price showed a abrupt decline. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 28% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $284 per ton. From July 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($158 per ton), while the average price for exports to Mozambique ($83.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Vietnam (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Sulphates Exports
In September 2022, exports of sulphates (excluding those of aluminium and barium) from China rose sharply to 527K tons, surging by 6.9% on August 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a temperate increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +4.8% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports increased by +35.8% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 38% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 607K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, sulphates exports shrank sharply to $85M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, exports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 41% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at 134K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Sulphates Exports by Country
Indonesia (61K tons), Bangladesh (50K tons) and Vietnam (37K tons) were the main destinations of sulphates exports from China, with a combined 28% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Peru, Colombia, South Africa, Thailand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Brazil, Mexico, Malaysia and Mozambique, which together accounted for a further 45%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Colombia (with a CAGR of +27.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Bangladesh ($6.3M), Indonesia ($5.9M) and South Africa ($4.4M) were the largest markets for sulphates exported from China worldwide, together accounting for 20% of total exports. Vietnam, Peru, Brazil, Colombia, Thailand, Mexico, Malaysia, the Philippines, Nigeria and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
Among the main countries of destination, Mozambique, with a CAGR of +19.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
