China Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer price stood at $4,272 per ton (CIF, China), rising by 13% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The import price peaked at $4,604 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Japan ($15.8 per kg), while the price for the UK ($1,817 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+5.0%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Import Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major supplied products. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was sweet biscuits ($4,837 per ton), while the price for waffles and wafers stood at $3,896 per ton.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by waffle and wafer (+2.8%).
China Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Imports
In September 2022, approximately 12K tons of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers were imported into China; growing by 3% on the previous month. Over the period under review, total imports indicated a slight expansion from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.8% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, imports increased by +83.3% against February 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 when imports increased by 29% m-o-m. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in September 2022.
In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports skyrocketed to $52M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in August 2022 with an increase of 31% against the previous month. Imports peaked in September 2022.

Waffles and wafers (7.2K tons) and sweet biscuits (4.8K tons) were the main products of sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports to China.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the major product types, was attained by waffle and wafer (with a CAGR of +5.3%).
In value terms, the most traded types of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers in China were waffles and wafers ($28M) and sweet biscuits ($23M).
China Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Imports by Country
In September 2022, Indonesia (8.2K tons) constituted the largest sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer supplier to China, with a 68% share of total imports. Moreover, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports from Indonesia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Malaysia (573 tons), more than tenfold. Russia (545 tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 4.5% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Indonesia totaled +7.0%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Malaysia (-1.0% per month) and Russia (+1.2% per month).
In value terms, Indonesia ($32M) constituted the largest supplier of sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer to China, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Japan ($3.4M), with a 6.6% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 4.1% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Indonesia totaled +10.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Japan (-1.0% per month) and Malaysia (-1.4% per month).
