U.S. Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Import Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer price per ton amounted to $3.8K (CIF, US), picking up by 9.8% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to August 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.0%. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Italy ($7.9K per ton), while the price for Mexico ($2.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Italy (+3.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Import Prices by Type
Prices varied noticeably by the product type; the product with the highest price was waffles and wafers ($5.9K per ton), while the price for sweet biscuits stood at $3.4K per ton.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by sweet biscuit (+3.5%).
U.S. Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Imports
In August 2022, overseas purchases of sweet biscuits, waffles and wafers increased by 16% to 81K tons, rising for the second consecutive month after three months of decline. The total import volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.5% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when imports increased by 23% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in August 2022.
In value terms, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports surged to $305M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, total imports indicated a remarkable increase from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +6.6% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +58.4% against June 2022 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
U.S. Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Imports by Type
In August 2022, sweet biscuits (68K tons) constituted the largest type of sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer supplied to the United States, accounting for a 84% share of total imports. Moreover, sweet biscuits exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, waffles and wafers (13K tons), fivefold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of sweet biscuits amounted to +3.9%.
In value terms, sweet biscuits ($230M) constituted the largest type of sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer supplied to the United States, comprising 75% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by waffles and wafers ($75M), with a 25% share of total imports.
U.S. Sweet Biscuit, Waffle and Wafer Imports by Country
In August 2022, Mexico (47K tons) constituted the largest supplier of sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer to the United States, accounting for a 59% share of total imports. Moreover, sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer imports from Mexico exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Canada (17K tons), threefold. The third position in this ranking was held by Italy (1.9K tons), with a 2.4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Mexico amounted to +2.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Canada (+4.6% per month) and Italy (+1.9% per month).
In value terms, Mexico ($118M), Canada ($94M) and Italy ($15M) appeared to be the largest sweet biscuit, waffle and wafer suppliers to the United States, together accounting for 75% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Denmark and Belgium, which together accounted for a further 7.1%.
Denmark, with a CAGR of +57.4%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
