U.S. Synthetic Rubber Export Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the synthetic rubber price per ton stood at $3.0K (FOB, US), flattening at the previous month. In general, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 1.2% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $3.2K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to July 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($10.8K per ton), while the average price for exports to Turkey ($2.0K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+5.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Synthetic Rubber Exports
In August 2022, overseas shipments of synthetic rubber decreased by -8.2% to 80K tons, falling for the third month in a row after five months of growth. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.3% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 12% m-o-m.
In value terms, synthetic rubber exports declined modestly to $254M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern remained consistent, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 11% m-o-m.
U.S. Synthetic Rubber Exports by Country
Belgium (15K tons), Mexico (15K tons) and Canada (15K tons) were the main destinations of synthetic rubber exports from the United States, together comprising 52% of total exports. Brazil, Chile, Singapore, China, the Netherlands, India, Turkey, the UK, Thailand, Japan and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 34%.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Chile (with a CAGR of +23.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for synthetic rubber exported from the United States were Mexico ($49M), Belgium ($44M) and Canada ($36M), together accounting for 48% of total exports. Brazil, Japan, China, Singapore, the Netherlands, Chile, India, the UK, Thailand, Turkey and Luxembourg lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 36%.
Chile, with a CAGR of +22.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
