U.S. Synthetic Yarn Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the synthetic yarn price per ton amounted to $3.7K (FOB, US), remaining relatively unchanged against the previous month. Over the last seven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6%. The growth pace was the most rapid in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.2% month-to-month. The export price peaked in August 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Canada ($10.2K per ton), while the average price for exports to Honduras ($3.5K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+5.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Synthetic Yarn Export Prices by Type
As there is only one major exported type of synthetic yarn, the average price level is determined by prices for yarn (other than sewing thread) of artificial staple fibres, not put up for retail sale.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the rate of growth in terms of prices for yarn (not sewing thread), of man-made staple fibres, put up for retail sale amounted to +4.5% per month.
U.S. Synthetic Yarn Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of yarn of synthetic or artificial staple fibers decreased by -0.1% to 17K tons, falling for the second consecutive month after two months of growth. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 23% against the previous month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 20K tons. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, synthetic yarn exports amounted to $65M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.4% from January 2022 to August 2022; the trend pattern remained relatively stable, with somewhat noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 20% month-to-month.
U.S. Synthetic Yarn Exports by Type
Yarn (other than sewing thread) of artificial staple fibres, not put up for retail sale (83 tons) was the largest type of synthetic yarn exported from the United States, with a approximately 100% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of yarn (other than sewing thread) of artificial staple fibres, not put up for retail sale stood at +32.1%.
In value terms, yarn (other than sewing thread) of artificial staple fibres, not put up for retail sale ($452K) emerged as the largest type of synthetic yarn exported from the United States.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of yarn (other than sewing thread) of artificial staple fibres, not put up for retail sale amounted to +31.0%.
U.S. Synthetic Yarn Exports by Country
Honduras (14K tons) was the main destination for synthetic yarn exports from the United States, accounting for a 83% share of total exports. Moreover, synthetic yarn exports to Honduras exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, El Salvador (1.3K tons), more than tenfold. Mexico (522 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 3% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to Honduras amounted to +1.4%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: El Salvador (-8.4% per month) and Mexico (+0.5% per month).
In value terms, Honduras ($51M) remains the key foreign market for synthetic yarn exports from the United States, comprising 78% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by El Salvador ($5M), with a 7.7% share of total exports. It was followed by Canada, with a 5.4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Honduras stood at +4.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: El Salvador (-6.4% per month) and Canada (+1.7% per month).
