China Talc And Steatite Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the talc and steatite price amounted to $170 per ton (FOB, China), waning by -8.3% against the previous month. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when the average export price increased by 16% against the previous month. The export price peaked at $281 per ton in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major foreign markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($290 per ton), while the average price for exports to Malaysia ($63.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Indonesia (+0.9%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Talc And Steatite Exports
In September 2022, approximately 72K tons of talc and steatite were exported from China; picking up by 10% compared with the previous month. Over the period under review, exports posted strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 130% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at 73K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, talc and steatite exports reached $12M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, exports recorded mild growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in May 2022 with an increase of 135% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 19K tons in June 2022; however, from July 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Talc And Steatite Exports by Country
Malaysia (14K tons), South Korea (13K tons) and Japan (13K tons) were the main destinations of talc and steatite exports from China, with a combined 56% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Malaysia (with a CAGR of +31.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($3.8M) emerged as the key foreign market for talc and steatite exports from China, comprising 31% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Korea ($1.8M), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Thailand, with a 13% share.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Japan was relatively modest. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: South Korea (+9.0% per month) and Thailand (-1.3% per month).
