U.S. Technical Textiles Export Price per Ton in June 2022
In June 2022, the technical textiles price per ton stood at $19.6K (FOB, US), growing by 10% against the previous month. In general, the export price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 11% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $20.1K per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to June 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major export markets. In June 2022, the country with the highest price was the Netherlands ($35.0K per ton), while the average price for exports to Guatemala ($6.2K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Guatemala (+27.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Technical Textiles Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was textiles; transmission or conveyor belts or belting, of textile material, whether or not reinforced with metal or other material ($35.6K per ton), while the average price for exports of textile wicks, woven, plaited or knitted; for lamps, stoves, lighters, candles or the like; incandescent gas mantles and tubular knitted gas mantle fabric therefor, whether or not impregnated ($4.3K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: textiles; transmission or conveyor belts or belting, of textile material, whether or not reinforced with metal or other material (+11.0%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
U.S. Technical Textiles Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of textile products and articles for technical uses was finally on the rise to reach 3K tons for the first time since May 2022, thus ending a two-month declining trend. The total export volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.9% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 23% month-to-month.
In value terms, technical textiles exports skyrocketed to $68M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total export value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% over the period from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 37% against the previous month.
U.S. Technical Textiles Exports by Type
Textile products and articles for technical uses; specified in note 7 to this chapter (2.3K tons) was the largest type of technical textiles exported from the United States, accounting for a 77% share of total exports. Moreover, textile products and articles for technical uses; specified in note 7 to this chapter exceeded the volume of the second product type, textile hosepiping and similar textile tubing (300 tons), eightfold. Textiles; transmission or conveyor belts or belting, of textile material, whether or not reinforced with metal or other material (194 tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 6.5% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of textile products and articles for technical uses; specified in note 7 to this chapter totaled +1.3%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: textile hosepiping and similar textile tubing (+4.5% per month) and textiles; transmission or conveyor belts or belting, of textile material, whether or not reinforced with metal or other material (+1.6% per month).
In value terms, textile products and articles for technical uses; specified in note 7 to this chapter ($58M) remains the largest type of technical textiles exported from the United States, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by textiles; transmission or conveyor belts or belting, of textile material, whether or not reinforced with metal or other material ($6.9M), with a 10% share of total exports. It was followed by textile hosepiping and similar textile tubing, with a 3.7% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the export volume of textile products and articles for technical uses; specified in note 7 to this chapter stood at +2.9%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: textiles; transmission or conveyor belts or belting, of textile material, whether or not reinforced with metal or other material (+12.8% per month) and textile hosepiping and similar textile tubing (+4.3% per month).
U.S. Technical Textiles Exports by Country
Mexico (956 tons), Canada (804 tons) and China (304 tons) were the main destinations of technical textiles exports from the United States, with a combined 65% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Germany, Brazil, Japan, Saudi Arabia, Guatemala, Australia, Colombia, South Korea, Chile and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 20%.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the biggest increases were in Saudi Arabia (with a CAGR of +90.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Mexico ($18M), Canada ($13M) and China ($4.3M) were the largest markets for technical textiles exported from the United States worldwide, together accounting for 57% of total exports. Germany, Japan, Brazil, South Korea, Australia, Colombia, the Netherlands, Chile, Saudi Arabia and Guatemala lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 20%.
Saudi Arabia, with a CAGR of +34.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main countries of destination over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
