China Tin Bar Import Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the tin bar price stood at $42.1 per kg (CIF, China), standing approximately at the previous month. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 an increase of 6.3% month-to-month. Over the period under review, average import prices hit record highs at $49.1 per kg in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to September 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($56.8 per kg), while the price for Singapore ($24.6 per kg) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Indonesia (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Tin Bar Imports
In September 2022, supplies from abroad of tin bars, rods, profiles and wires was finally on the rise to reach 119 tons after three months of decline. Overall, imports, however, showed a pronounced decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when imports increased by 26% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 166 tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, tin bar imports surged to $5M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 34% month-to-month. Imports peaked at 8.2K tons in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to September 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
China Tin Bar Imports by Country
Taiwan (Chinese) (27 tons), Japan (27 tons) and South Korea (22 tons) were the main suppliers of tin bar imports to China, with a combined 63% share of total imports. Malaysia, Thailand, Germany and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 25%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Germany (with a CAGR of +7.8%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Japan ($1.5M), Taiwan (Chinese) ($910K) and South Korea ($895K) were the largest tin bar suppliers to China, together comprising 66% of total imports. Malaysia, Thailand, Germany and Singapore lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 22%.
Among the main suppliers, Germany, with a CAGR of +5.7%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
