Toy Prices in China

China Toy Export Price in July 2022

In July 2022, the toy price amounted to $12.6 per kg (FOB, China), with a decrease of -5.8% against the previous month. Over the period from January 2022 to July 2022, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 an increase of 7.4% month-to-month. The export price peaked at $13.4 per kg in June 2022, and then reduced in the following month.

Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($25.6 per kg), while the average price for exports to France ($9,762 per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to South Korea (+4.7%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

China Toy Exports

For the fifth consecutive month, China recorded growth in overseas shipments of dolls and toys, which increased by 17% to 410K tons in July 2022. In general, total exports indicated a moderate increase from January 2022 to July 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1% over the last six-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2022 figures, exports increased by +112.1% against February 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 25% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in July 2022.

In value terms, toy exports rose significantly to $5.2B (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Overall, exports showed a notable expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 with an increase of 35% against the previous month. The exports peaked in July 2022.

China Toy Exports by Country

The United States (151K tons) was the main destination for toy exports from China, with a 37% share of total exports. Moreover, toy exports to the United States exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, the UK (23K tons), sixfold. The third position in this ranking was held by Mexico (15K tons), with a 3.7% share.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume to the United States stood at +4.9%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the UK (+4.6% per month) and Mexico (+9.6% per month).

In value terms, the United States ($1.6B) remains the key foreign market for toy exports from China, comprising 30% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by the UK ($248M), with a 4.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Japan, with a 4.5% share.

From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States stood at +7.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: the UK (+6.2% per month) and Japan (+5.2% per month).
