China T-Shirt Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the t-shirt price stood at $3.2 per unit (FOB, China), leveling off at the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.4%. The growth pace was the most rapid in February 2022 an increase of 8.3% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $3.3 per unit in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to August 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was South Korea ($4.9 per unit), while the average price for exports to Kenya ($1.4 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Malaysia (+3.1%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China T-Shirt Export Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of cotton, knitted or crocheted ($3.3 per unit), while the average price for exports of t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of textile materials (other than cotton), knitted or crocheted amounted to $3.1 per unit.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of textile materials (other than cotton), knitted or crocheted (+1.8%).
China T-Shirt Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of t-shirts decreased by -14.1% to 225M units, falling for the third month in a row after three months of growth. In general, exports recorded a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in May 2022 when exports increased by 21% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 351M units in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, t-shirt exports fell to $717M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Overall, exports saw a perceptible contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in May 2022 with an increase of 21% m-o-m. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at 1B units in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China T-Shirt Exports by Type
T-shirts, singlets and other vests; of textile materials (other than cotton), knitted or crocheted (119M units) and t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of cotton, knitted or crocheted (106M units) were the main products of t-shirt exports from China.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of cotton, knitted or crocheted (with a CAGR of -5.1%).
In value terms, t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of textile materials (other than cotton), knitted or crocheted ($365M) and t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of cotton, knitted or crocheted ($352M) constituted the most exported types of t-shirts from China worldwide.
In terms of the main product categories, t-shirts, singlets and other vests; of cotton, knitted or crocheted, with a CAGR of -4.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review.
China T-Shirt Exports by Country
The United States (41M units), Japan (29M units) and Australia (12M units) were the main destinations of t-shirt exports from China, with a combined 36% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Chile, Saudi Arabia, Panama, the Philippines, Germany, South Africa, Kenya, Malaysia, South Korea and Israel, which together accounted for a further 27%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by South Africa (with a CAGR of +13.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for t-shirt exported from China were the United States ($142M), Japan ($106M) and Australia ($45M), with a combined 41% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Chile, South Korea, the Philippines, Germany, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, Panama, Israel, South Africa and Kenya, which together accounted for a further 23%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, South Africa, with a CAGR of +9.7%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
