U.S. T-Shirt Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the t-shirt price amounted to $2.6 per unit (CIF, US), growing by 15% against the previous month. Over the last seven months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.8%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was Vietnam ($4 per unit), while the price for the Dominican Republic ($1.5 per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Nicaragua (+11.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.

In August 2022, supplies from abroad of t-shirts was finally on the rise to reach 323M units after four months of decline. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 28% against the previous month. As a result, imports attained the peak of 424M units. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, t-shirt imports soared to $837M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. The total import value increased at an average monthly rate of +3.7% from January 2022 to August 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain months. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 32% against the previous month. As a result, imports reached the peak of $915M. From April 2022 to August 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.

Honduras (57M units), Nicaragua (49M units) and Bangladesh (31M units) were the main suppliers of t-shirt imports to the United States, together accounting for 43% of total imports.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in Honduras (with a CAGR of +10.1%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Nicaragua ($188M), Honduras ($115M) and Bangladesh ($58M) appeared to be the largest t-shirt suppliers to the United States, together comprising 43% of total imports.
Among the main suppliers, Nicaragua, with a CAGR of +15.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
