U.S. Unbleached Sulphite Pulp Export Price per Ton in August 2022
In August 2022, the unbleached sulphite pulp price per ton stood at $260.4 (FOB, US), reducing by -18.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a deep setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when the average export price increased by 40% month-to-month. Over the period under review, the average export prices attained the maximum at $464.6 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Canada ($364.0 per ton), while the average price for exports to Denmark ($152.0 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Canada (+0.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Unbleached Sulphite Pulp Exports
In August 2022, shipments abroad of unbleached sulphite pulp decreased by -28.5% to 836 tons, falling for the second month in a row after three months of growth. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 497% month-to-month.
In value terms, unbleached sulphite pulp exports shrank remarkably to $218K (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, exports, however, posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in April 2022 when exports increased by 353% m-o-m.
U.S. Unbleached Sulphite Pulp Exports by Country
Canada (273 tons), India (240 tons) and Denmark (108 tons) were the main destinations of unbleached sulphite pulp exports from the United States, with a combined 74% share of total exports. The UK and Australia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 25%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in the UK (with a CAGR of +12.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Canada ($99K) emerged as the key foreign market for unbleached sulphite pulp exports from the United States, comprising 46% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by India ($37K), with a 17% share of total exports. It was followed by the UK, with a 14% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to Canada amounted to +9.5%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: India (0.0% per month) and the UK (+11.9% per month).
