China Vitamin Export Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the vitamin price stood at $10.0 per kg (FOB, China), shrinking by -5.9% against the previous month. Overall, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when the average export price increased by 7.2% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $11,706 per ton. From July 2022 to August 2022, the the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was India ($18.6 per kg), while the average price for exports to Japan ($6,678 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Russia (+12.4%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Vitamin Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was vitamins; vitamin b12 and its derivatives, unmixed ($726 per kg), while the average price for exports of vitamins; vitamin c and its derivatives, unmixed ($3,876 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: vitamins; d- or DL-pantothenic acid (vitamin b3 or vitamin b5) and its derivatives, unmixed (+7.0%), while the prices for the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
China Vitamin Exports
In August 2022, the amount of provitamins and vitamins exported from China fell significantly to 22K tons, with a decrease of -16.5% on the month before. In general, exports continue to indicate a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 when exports increased by 16% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 38K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, vitamin exports contracted sharply to $221M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. Over the period under review, exports showed a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 24% month-to-month. The exports peaked at 384K tons in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to August 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Vitamin Exports by Type
Vitamins; vitamin c and its derivatives, unmixed (12K tons) was the largest type of vitamin exported from China, accounting for a 55% share of total exports. Moreover, vitamins; vitamin c and its derivatives, unmixed exceeded the volume of the second product type, vitamins; vitamin e and its derivatives, unmixed (5.2K tons), twofold. Vitamins; n.e.s. in item no. 2936.2, and their derivatives, unmixed (2.6K tons) ranked third in terms of total exports with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of the volume of export of vitamins; vitamin c and its derivatives, unmixed totaled -8.0%. With regard to the other exported products, the following average monthly rates of growth were recorded: vitamins; vitamin e and its derivatives, unmixed (-7.3% per month) and vitamins; n.e.s. in item no. 2936.2, and their derivatives, unmixed (-4.6% per month).
In value terms, the most traded types of provitamins and vitamins in China were vitamins; vitamin e and its derivatives, unmixed ($73M), vitamins; vitamin c and its derivatives, unmixed ($47M) and vitamins; n.e.s. in item no. 2936.2, and their derivatives, unmixed ($35M), together comprising 70% of total exports. These products were followed by vitamins; d- or DL-pantothenic acid (vitamin b3 or vitamin b5) and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamin b1 and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamin b12 and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamin b6 and its derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; vitamins a and their derivatives, unmixed, vitamins; n.e.s. in heading no. 2936, including natural concentrates and vitamins; vitamin b2 and its derivatives, unmixed, which together accounted for a further 30%.
Vitamins; vitamin b12 and its derivatives, unmixed, with a CAGR of -2.2%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced a decline.
China Vitamin Exports by Country
The United States (3.9K tons), Germany (2.5K tons) and Brazil (1.8K tons) were the main destinations of vitamin exports from China, together comprising 37% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Netherlands, Japan, South Korea, Indonesia, Russia, the Philippines, Singapore, India, Vietnam and Mexico, which together accounted for a further 33%.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the biggest increases were in the Philippines (with a CAGR of +1.1%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the United States ($52M) remains the key foreign market for vitamin exports from China, comprising 23% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Germany ($18M), with an 8.4% share of total exports. It was followed by Brazil, with a 7.7% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value to the United States stood at -7.2%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Germany (-13.2% per month) and Brazil (+0.5% per month).
