U.S. Wheat Gluten Import Price per Ton in July 2022
In July 2022, the wheat gluten price per ton amounted to $2.0K (CIF, US), which is down by -5.5% against the previous month. Over the last six-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.1%. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when the average import price increased by 12% month-to-month. The import price peaked at $2.1K per ton in June 2022, and then fell in the following month.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of origin: the country with the highest price was Australia ($2.3K per ton), while the price for France ($1.4K per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Australia (+5.1%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Wheat Gluten Imports
In July 2022, supplies from abroad of wheat gluten decreased by -28.4% to 20K tons for the first time since April 2022, thus ending a two-month rising trend. Overall, total imports indicated modest growth from January 2022 to July 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +1.1% over the last six-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on July 2022 figures, imports decreased by -28.4% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in March 2022 with an increase of 69% against the previous month.
In value terms, wheat gluten imports contracted significantly to $39M (IndexBox estimates) in July 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a measured increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in March 2022 when imports increased by 89% m-o-m.
U.S. Wheat Gluten Imports by Country
In July 2022, Australia (7.4K tons) constituted the largest wheat gluten supplier to the United States, with a 38% share of total imports. Moreover, wheat gluten imports from Australia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (3K tons), twofold. Lithuania (3K tons) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 15% share.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of volume from Australia amounted to +4.5%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Germany (-1.7% per month) and Lithuania (+4.7% per month).
In value terms, Australia ($17M) constituted the largest supplier of wheat gluten to the United States, comprising 44% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Lithuania ($6M), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Germany, with a 12% share.
From January 2022 to July 2022, the average monthly growth rate of value from Australia amounted to +9.8%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Lithuania (+9.1% per month) and Germany (-3.0% per month).
