China Wood Chips And Particles Import Price in August 2022
In August 2022, the wood chips and particles price amounted to $101 per cubic meter (CIF, China), growing by 2.3% against the previous month. Over the last seven-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +3.6%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in February 2022 when the average import price increased by 10% m-o-m. The import price peaked in August 2022.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In August 2022, the country with the highest price was the United States ($160 per cubic meter), while the price for Russia ($42.3 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+18.9%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Wood Chips And Particles Import Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplied products. In August 2022, the product with the highest price was non-coniferous wood in chips or particles ($105 per cubic meter), while the price for coniferous wood in chips or particles amounted to $66.3 per cubic meter.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by chipped coniferous wood (+3.6%).
China Wood Chips And Particles Imports
In August 2022, the amount of wood chips and particles imported into China dropped to 3.8M cubic meters, reducing by -2.8% on the previous month's figure. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 when imports increased by 17% against the previous month. Imports peaked at 4M cubic meters in May 2022; however, from June 2022 to August 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood chips and particles imports shrank slightly to $384M (IndexBox estimates) in August 2022. In general, total imports indicated tangible growth from January 2022 to August 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +2.9% over the last seven months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on August 2022 figures, imports increased by +57.6% against March 2022 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in April 2022 with an increase of 27% against the previous month. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at 386M cubic meters in July 2022, and then shrank in the following month.
China Wood Chips And Particles Imports by Type
In August 2022, non-coniferous wood in chips or particles (3.5M cubic meters) was the main type of wood chips and particles supplied to China, with a 91% share of total imports. Moreover, non-coniferous wood in chips or particles exceeded the figures recorded for the second-largest type, coniferous wood in chips or particles (328K cubic meters), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of import of non-coniferous wood in chips or particles was relatively modest.
In value terms, non-coniferous wood in chips or particles ($362M) constituted the largest type of wood chips and particles supplied to China, comprising 94% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by coniferous wood in chips or particles ($22M), with a 5.7% share of total imports.
China Wood Chips And Particles Imports by Country
In August 2022, Vietnam (2.2M cubic meters) constituted the largest wood chips and particles supplier to China, with a 57% share of total imports. Moreover, wood chips and particles imports from Vietnam exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Australia (955K cubic meters), twofold. The third position in this ranking was held by Thailand (159K cubic meters), with a 4.2% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume from Vietnam amounted to +2.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (+4.8% per month) and Thailand (-13.0% per month).
In value terms, Vietnam ($220M) constituted the largest supplier of wood chips and particles to China, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Australia ($103M), with a 27% share of total imports. It was followed by Malaysia, with a 3.4% share.
From January 2022 to August 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value from Vietnam amounted to +7.6%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average monthly rates of imports growth: Australia (+5.1% per month) and Malaysia (+23.0% per month).
