U.S. Wood Chips And Particles Export Price in June 2022
In June 2022, the wood chips and particles price amounted to $25 per cubic meter (FOB, US), growing by 5.2% against the previous month. Over the last five-month period, it increased at an average monthly rate of +2.2%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in February 2022 when the average export price increased by 12% month-to-month. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $24.6K per thousand cubic meters. From March 2022 to June 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($20 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($9.7 per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Japan (+4.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
U.S. Wood Chips And Particles Export Prices by Type
Average prices varied noticeably for the major types of exported product. In June 2022, the product with the highest price was non-coniferous wood in chips or particles ($26 per cubic meter), while the average price for exports of coniferous wood in chips or particles stood at $24 per cubic meter.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: chipped coniferous wood (+2.8%).
U.S. Wood Chips And Particles Exports
In June 2022, shipments abroad of wood chips and particles decreased by -6.7% to 986K cubic meters, falling for the second month in a row after two months of growth. In general, exports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 142% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at 1.3M cubic meters in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to June 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, wood chips and particles exports contracted modestly to $24M (IndexBox estimates) in June 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in March 2022 when exports increased by 125% against the previous month. The exports peaked at 27M cubic meters in April 2022; however, from May 2022 to June 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
U.S. Wood Chips And Particles Exports by Type
Coniferous wood in chips or particles (923K cubic meters) was the largest type of wood chips and particles exported from the United States, accounting for a 94% share of total exports. Moreover, coniferous wood in chips or particles exceeded the volume of the second product type, non-coniferous wood in chips or particles (64K cubic meters), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the volume of export of coniferous wood in chips or particles amounted to +5.2%.
In value terms, coniferous wood in chips or particles ($23M) remains the largest type of wood chips and particles exported from the United States, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by non-coniferous wood in chips or particles ($1.6M), with a 6.7% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly growth rate of the export volume of coniferous wood in chips or particles totaled +8.2%.
U.S. Wood Chips And Particles Exports by Country
Japan (853K cubic meters) was the main destination for wood chips and particles exports from the United States, with a 86% share of total exports. Moreover, wood chips and particles exports to Japan exceeded the volume sent to the second major destination, Mexico (40K cubic meters), more than tenfold.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of volume to Japan amounted to +10.0%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (0.0% per month) and Brazil (+10.4% per month).
In value terms, Japan ($17M) remains the key foreign market for wood chips and particles exports from the United States, comprising 71% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mexico ($649K), with a 2.7% share of total exports.
From January 2022 to June 2022, the average monthly rate of growth in terms of value to Japan stood at +14.8%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average monthly rates of exports growth: Mexico (+63.9% per month) and Brazil (+10.4% per month).
