China Wrapping Papers Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the wrapping papers price amounted to $1,749 per ton (FOB, China), increasing by 7.9% against the previous month. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a slight decline. Over the period under review, the average export prices hit record highs at $1,901 per ton in January 2022; however, from February 2022 to September 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In September 2022, the country with the highest price was Japan ($2,075 per ton), while the average price for exports to Brazil ($1,029 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+10.2%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Wrapping Papers Export Prices by Type
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major types of exported product. In September 2022, the product with the highest price was paper and paperboard, coated on one or both sides with kaolin "china clay" or other inorganic substances, with or without a binder, and with no other coating, whether or not surface-coloured, surface-decorated or printed, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size ($2,409 per ton), while the average price for exports of unbleached sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm ($1,292 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for the following types: kraft paper and paperboard; sack kraft paper, uncoated, bleached, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803 (+3.2%), while the prices for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Wrapping Papers Exports
In September 2022, shipments abroad of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard decreased by -11.3% to 28K tons, falling for the third month in a row after four months of growth. In general, total exports indicated a noticeable increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its volume increased at an average monthly rate of +2.6% over the last eight months. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -31.1% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when exports increased by 35% month-to-month. As a result, the exports reached the peak of 41K tons. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, wrapping papers exports declined modestly to $50M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Overall, total exports indicated a modest increase from January 2022 to September 2022: its value increased at an average monthly rate of +1.5% over the last eight-month period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on September 2022 figures, exports decreased by -31.3% against June 2022 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in June 2022 when exports increased by 26% m-o-m. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $73M. From July 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
China Wrapping Papers Exports by Type
Paper and paperboard, corrugated (with or without glued flat surface sheets), creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated, in rolls or sheets other than those of heading no. 4803 or 4818 (3.9K tons), paper and paperboard, coated on one or both sides with kaolin "china clay" or other inorganic substances, with or without a binder, and with no other coating, whether or not surface-coloured, surface-decorated or printed, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size (2.7K tons) and unbleached sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm (2.6K tons) were the main products of wrapping papers exports from China, together accounting for 96% of total exports. These products were followed by sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm and sulphite wrapping paper, which together accounted for a further 4.3%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the major product types, was attained by kraft paper and paperboard; sack kraft paper, uncoated, unbleached, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803 (with a CAGR of +10.6%), while the other products experienced mixed trend patterns.
In value terms, paper and paperboard, corrugated (with or without glued flat surface sheets), creped, crinkled, embossed or perforated, in rolls or sheets other than those of heading no. 4803 or 4818 ($9.3M), paper and paperboard, coated on one or both sides with kaolin "china clay" or other inorganic substances, with or without a binder, and with no other coating, whether or not surface-coloured, surface-decorated or printed, in rolls or in square or rectangular sheets, of any size ($6.4M) and unbleached sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm ($3.4M) constituted the most exported types of wrapping paper, packaging paper and paperboard from China worldwide, with a combined 96% share of total exports. Sack kraft paper, uncoated, in rolls of a width > 36 cm and sulphite wrapping paper lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 3.7%.
Kraft paper and paperboard; sack kraft paper, uncoated, unbleached, in rolls or sheets, other than that of heading no. 4802 or 4803, with a CAGR of +7.7%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main product categories over the period under review, while shipments for the other products experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Wrapping Papers Exports by Country
Brazil (3.3K tons), India (2.3K tons) and Malaysia (1.9K tons) were the main destinations of wrapping papers exports from China, together accounting for 26% of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, Colombia, Vietnam, the United Arab Emirates, Poland, South Korea, Japan, Spain, Kuwait and Chile, which together accounted for a further 36%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main countries of destination, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +70.4%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for wrapping papers exported from China were India ($3.9M), Brazil ($3.4M) and Malaysia ($3.2M), with a combined 21% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Poland, Japan, Colombia, Chile, South Korea, Spain and Kuwait, which together accounted for a further 34%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Spain, with a CAGR of +53.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
