China Yams Export Price in September 2022
In September 2022, the yams price stood at $2,452 per ton (FOB, China), rising by 9.1% against the previous month. Over the last eight months, it increased at an average monthly rate of +1.3%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 when the average export price increased by 31% against the previous month. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $2,795 per ton. From August 2022 to September 2022, the the average export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by the country of destination: the country with the highest price was Japan ($8,014 per ton), while the average price for exports to Canada ($1,275 per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Thailand (+8.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.
China Yams Exports
In September 2022, approximately 749 tons of yams were exported from China; surging by 1.6% compared with August 2022. In general, exports, however, saw a perceptible downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in March 2022 when exports increased by 34% month-to-month. As a result, the exports attained the peak of 930 tons. From April 2022 to September 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, yams exports rose remarkably to $1.8M (IndexBox estimates) in September 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a mild slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in July 2022 with an increase of 45% m-o-m. The exports peaked at 2.3K tons in March 2022; however, from April 2022 to September 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
China Yams Exports by Country
Malaysia (222 tons), Hong Kong SAR (155 tons) and the United States (147 tons) were the main destinations of yams exports from China, together comprising 70% of total exports. Japan, Thailand, Singapore, the Netherlands, Canada and Taiwan (Chinese) lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 18%.
From January 2022 to September 2022, the biggest increases were in Thailand (with a CAGR of +17.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for yams exported from China were Japan ($538K), Malaysia ($415K) and the United States ($346K), with a combined 71% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Hong Kong SAR, Thailand, Singapore, the Netherlands, Taiwan (Chinese) and Canada, which together accounted for a further 23%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, Thailand, with a CAGR of +27.6%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
