Curtains Market Size in the Netherlands

For the sixth consecutive year, the Dutch curtains market recorded growth in sales value, which increased by 19% to $X in 2022. In general, the total consumption indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +108.0% against 2016 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

In value terms, curtains production fell to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded resilient growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 724% against the previous year. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X, and then reduced in the following year.

After two years of growth, overseas shipments of curtains and interior blinds decreased by -33.9% to X square meters in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 91%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X square meters, and then shrank significantly in the following year.

In value terms, curtains exports fell remarkably to $X in 2022. Overall, total exports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 35%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X, and then dropped markedly in the following year.

Belgium (X square meters), Germany (X square meters) and Poland (X square meters) were the main destinations of curtains exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 73% share of total exports. France, the UK, the Czech Republic, Spain, Italy and Sweden lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 17%.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Sweden (with a CAGR of +24.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Belgium ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest markets for curtains exported from the Netherlands worldwide, with a combined 63% share of total exports. Poland, Spain, the UK, Italy, Sweden and the Czech Republic lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 24%.

Among the main countries of destination, Poland, with a CAGR of +21.9%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average curtains export price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, picking up by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, showed a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 an increase of 18%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per square meter. From 2016 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Spain ($X per square meter), while the average price for exports to the Czech Republic ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Poland (+2.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands

In 2022, imports of curtains and interior blinds into the Netherlands rose remarkably to X square meters, with an increase of 5.5% against 2021 figures. In general, imports continue to indicate a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 45%. Imports peaked in 2022 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, curtains imports reduced to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 23% against the previous year. Imports peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2022, China (X square meters) constituted the largest supplier of curtains to the Netherlands, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, curtains imports from China exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X square meters), threefold. Poland (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.7% share.

The Czech Republic, Belgium, France, Denmark, Italy, Spain and Turkey lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 37%.

Spain, with a CAGR of +32.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The average curtains import price stood at $X per square meter in 2022, shrinking by -13% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 58%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the maximum at $X per square meter in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major supplying countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was the Czech Republic ($X per square meter), while the price for China ($X per square meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Poland (+4.6%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced a decline.
