Uncooked Pasta Market Size in the Netherlands
After two years of growth, the Dutch uncooked pasta market decreased by -12.6% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Uncooked Pasta Production in the Netherlands
In value terms, uncooked pasta production contracted significantly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the production volume increased by 52% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

Uncooked pasta exports from the Netherlands contracted to X tons in 2021, falling by -6.4% against the previous year. Over the period under review, total exports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -33.2% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 52%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, uncooked pasta exports shrank significantly to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 74% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Germany (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main destinations of uncooked pasta exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 58% share of total exports. France, the UK, the United States, Italy and Curacao lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 23%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for the United States (with a CAGR of +88.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for uncooked pasta exported from the Netherlands were Belgium ($X), Germany ($X) and France ($X), with a combined 60% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Spain, the UK, the United States, Italy and Curacao, which together accounted for a further 19%.
Among the main countries of destination, the United States, with a CAGR of +72.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, the average uncooked pasta export price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -11.5% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a slight descent. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the average export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2021, the country with the highest price was France ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to the United States ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Italy (+1.8%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced a decline.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2021, overseas purchases of uncooked pasta decreased by -3.7% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.4% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern remained consistent, with only minor fluctuations being observed throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 8% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, uncooked pasta imports rose sharply to $X in 2021. The total import value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% from 2012 to 2021; the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 15%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Italy (X tons), Belgium (X tons) and Spain (X tons) were the main suppliers of uncooked pasta imports to the Netherlands, with a combined 82% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Spain (with a CAGR of +64.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Italy ($X) constituted the largest supplier of uncooked pasta to the Netherlands, comprising 48% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Lithuania, with a 6.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value from Italy amounted to +6.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-4.5% per year) and Lithuania (+42.0% per year).

The average uncooked pasta import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 14% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.6%. Over the period under review, average import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Lithuania ($X per ton), while the price for Turkey ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by China (+4.2%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
