In 2022, after two years of growth, there was decline in supplies from abroad of veneer sheets and sheets for plywood and other wood sawn lengthwise, when their volume decreased by -4.9% to X square meters. Overall, imports, however, saw resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 75% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X square meters in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, veneer sheet imports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. In general, total imports indicated perceptible growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +51.9% against 2019 indices. In 2022, Belgium (X square meters) constituted the largest veneer sheet supplier to the Netherlands, with a 48% share of total imports. Moreover, veneer sheet imports from Belgium exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Germany (X square meters), threefold. Ukraine (X square meters) ranked third in terms of total imports with a 7.6% share.
