In 2022, the Dutch yoghurt market decreased by -1% to $X for the first time since 2015, thus ending a six-year rising trend. Over the period under review, consumption posted strong growth. Yoghurt consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports from the Netherlands
In 2022, approx. X tons of yoghurt were exported from the Netherlands; which is down by -6.1% on the previous year. Overall, exports, however, enjoyed resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
In value terms, yoghurt exports fell to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 with an increase of 39%. The exports peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Belgium (X tons), Denmark (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main destinations of yoghurt exports from the Netherlands, with a combined 61% share of total exports. Sweden, the UK, France and China lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 30%.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for China (with a CAGR of +61.9%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Belgium ($X) remains the key foreign market for yoghurt exports from the Netherlands, comprising 36% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Germany ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Denmark, with a 12% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value to Belgium amounted to +12.1%. Exports to the other major destinations recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Germany (+6.1% per year) and Denmark (+50.0% per year).

In 2022, the average yoghurt export price amounted to $X per ton, declining by -3.8% against the previous year. Overall, export price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, yoghurt export price increased by +4.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 42%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the average export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major external markets. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was China ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Sweden ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to Belgium (+7.3%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the Netherlands
In 2022, imports of yoghurt into the Netherlands totaled X tons, surging by 3.6% against the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +1.5% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 20% against the previous year. Imports peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In general, total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the last decade. In 2022, Germany (X tons) constituted the largest yoghurt supplier to the Netherlands, with a 69% share of total imports. Moreover, yoghurt imports from Germany exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest supplier, Belgium (X tons), fourfold. The third position in this ranking was taken by Luxembourg (X tons), with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of volume from Germany amounted to +3.2%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (-3.4% per year) and Luxembourg (+37.7% per year).
In value terms, Germany ($X) constituted the largest supplier of yoghurt to the Netherlands, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belgium ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Luxembourg, with a 4.6% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value from Germany stood at +5.1%. The remaining supplying countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belgium (+0.2% per year) and Luxembourg (+56.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the average yoghurt import price amounted to $X per ton, waning by -3.2% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2022, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.2%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the average import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, average import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Luxembourg ($X per ton), while the price for Belgium ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
