In value terms, coffee extract exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, saw a noticeable shrinkage. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Germany (X tons), France (X tons) and the Czech Republic (X tons) were the main destinations of coffee extract exports from the UK, together comprising 38% of total exports. These countries were followed by Ireland, the Netherlands, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Chile, Greece, Spain, Italy, Ukraine and Australia, which together accounted for a further 37%.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Australia (with a CAGR of +17.3%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest markets for coffee extract exported from the UK were Germany ($X), Ireland ($X) and France ($X), together comprising 37% of total exports. These countries were followed by the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Spain, Greece, Chile, Italy, Ukraine and Australia, which together accounted for a further 36%.
In terms of the main countries of destination, the United Arab Emirates, with a CAGR of +17.3%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The average coffee extract export price stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 2.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 13% against the previous year. The export price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices for the major overseas markets. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Ireland ($X per ton), while the average price for exports to Chile ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was recorded for supplies to the United Arab Emirates (+1.5%), while the prices for the other major destinations experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports into the UK
In 2021, purchases abroad of coffee extracts, essences and concentrates decreased by -31.9% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, imports showed a perceptible contraction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 16% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, coffee extract imports contracted markedly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a abrupt slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 8.8%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
Spain (X tons), Poland (X tons) and Germany (X tons) were the main suppliers of coffee extract imports to the UK, together accounting for 52% of total imports. Hungary, France, Brazil, Ukraine, Thailand, Italy, Ireland, Russia, Belgium and the Netherlands lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 39%.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main suppliers, was attained by Russia (with a CAGR of +162.9%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Spain ($X), France ($X) and Germany ($X) were the largest coffee extract suppliers to the UK, together accounting for 49% of total imports. These countries were followed by Poland, Italy, Brazil, Hungary, Russia, Ukraine, Thailand, Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands, which together accounted for a further 42%.
Russia, with a CAGR of +144.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main suppliers over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
The average coffee extract import price stood at $X per ton in 2021, approximately reflecting the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a noticeable reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the average import price increased by 6.8%. The import price peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Italy ($X per ton), while the price for Hungary ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Ukraine (+21.8%), while the prices for the other major suppliers experienced more modest paces of growth.
