Dicyandiamide Market Size in Africa
In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in the African dicyandiamide market, when its value increased by 36% to $X. The total consumption indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.8% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, dicyandiamide production reduced sharply to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.9% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, production increased by +26.2% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. As a result, production attained the peak level of $X, and then dropped dramatically in the following year.

In 2021, approx. X kg of X-cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide) were exported in Africa; waning by -99% against the previous year's figure. In general, exports continue to indicate a precipitous decrease. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 52,469%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, dicyandiamide exports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a precipitous contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 127,135% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2020, and then contracted sharply in the following year.

The shipments of the one major exporters of X-cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide), namely South Africa, represented more than two-thirds of total export.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the X-cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide) exports, with a CAGR of -17.5% from 2012 to 2021. South Africa (+95 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest dicyandiamide supplier in Africa.
In South Africa, dicyandiamide exports decreased by an average annual rate of -15.4% over the period from 2012-2021.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, which is down by -64.8% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 170% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for South Africa.
From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for South Africa amounted to +2.6% per year.

In 2021, after four years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of X-cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide), when their volume increased by 89% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, dicyandiamide imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt downturn. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt represented the main importer of X-cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide) in Africa, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was approx. 34% of total imports in 2021. Djibouti (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 15% share, followed by South Africa (13%), Kenya (8.7%), Morocco (6.6%), Ethiopia (6.4%) and Senegal (4.8%).
Egypt experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of X-cyanoguanidine (dicyandiamide). At the same time, Kenya (+70.1%), Morocco (+25.8%) and Ethiopia (+11.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +70.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, South Africa (-8.7%), Djibouti (-9.2%) and Senegal (-11.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Egypt (+11 p.p.), Kenya (+8.7 p.p.), Morocco (+6.6 p.p.) and Ethiopia (+4.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Senegal, South Africa and Djibouti saw its share reduced by -5.5%, -8.6% and -11.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X), Egypt ($X) and Senegal ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 51% share of total imports. Morocco, Kenya, Djibouti and Ethiopia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 31%.
In terms of the main importing countries, Kenya, with a CAGR of +65.0%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 6.5% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, recorded a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the import price increased by 94% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Djibouti ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+10.3%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
