Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Angola ($X per ton), while South Africa amounted to $X per ton.

In 2021, purchases abroad of acetic anhydride was finally on the rise to reach X tons after two years of decline. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 70% against the previous year. Imports by Country
Morocco was the key importer of acetic anhydride in Africa, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was approx. 70% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons) and Egypt (X tons), together creating a 28% share of total imports.
Morocco was also the fastest-growing in terms of the acetic anhydride imports, with a CAGR of +21.8% from 2012 to 2021. South Africa (-3.1%) and Egypt (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. In value terms, Morocco ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported acetic anhydride in Africa, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by South Africa ($X), with a 27% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Morocco amounted to +18.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: South Africa (+3.6% per year) and Egypt (-8.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2017 to 2021, the import prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+7.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
