Exports from South Africa decreased at an average annual rate of -2.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Mauritius (+19.0%), Kenya (+18.1%) and Zambia (+15.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +19.0% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kenya and Mauritius increased by +5.4 and +4 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X units in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
