From 2007 to 2019, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the leading exporting countries, was attained by South Africa, while exports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.
In value terms, Cameroon ($X), Guinea ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2019, with a combined X% share of total exports.

The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2007; however, from 2008 to 2019, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, alumina imports contracted remarkably to $X in 2019. In general, imports recorded a mild decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of X% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2018, and then declined dramatically in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2019, South Africa (X tons) represented the major importer of alumina, making up X% of total imports. Egypt (X tons) occupied the second position in the ranking, followed by Cameroon (X tons). All these countries together held approx. X% share of total imports. Ghana (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2007 to 2019, average annual rates of growth with regard to alumina imports into South Africa stood at -X%. At the same time, Ghana (+X%) and Egypt (+X%) displayed positive paces of growth.
