The African aluminium alloy wire market contracted to $X in 2022, declining by -2.6% against the previous year. In general, consumption continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, shipments abroad of aluminium alloy wire was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, continue to indicate a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 70%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aluminium alloy wire exports reached $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, showed a perceptible setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 83%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

Egypt dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2022. Tanzania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to aluminium alloy wire exports from Egypt stood at -1.6%. At the same time, Tanzania (+68.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tanzania emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +68.9% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Tanzania increased by +2.4 percentage points.

In value terms, Egypt ($X) remains the largest aluminium alloy wire supplier in Africa, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Tanzania ($X), with a 0.1% share of total exports.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, approximately reflecting the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 an increase of 56%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Egypt ($X per ton), while Tanzania totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Egypt (-2.5%).

Imports in Africa

In 2022, imports of aluminium alloy wire in Africa contracted rapidly to X tons, waning by -21.4% compared with 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a perceptible decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 48%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, aluminium alloy wire imports rose markedly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a abrupt downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 14%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Tanzania represented the major importer of aluminium alloy wire in Africa, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 37% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and Algeria (X tons), together constituting a 59% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Tanzania (with a CAGR of +19.7%), while imports for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In value terms, the largest aluminium alloy wire importing markets in Africa were South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Egypt ($X), together accounting for 74% of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, South Africa, with a CAGR of +5.8%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, surging by 42% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Tanzania ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Morocco (+2.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
