The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2019; afterwards, it flattened through to 2022.

Exports in Africa

Amino resin exports dropped rapidly to X tons in 2022, declining by -24.6% compared with 2021. In general, exports, however, enjoyed a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 180%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, amino resin exports contracted markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 119% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Egypt was the largest exporter of amino resins in Africa, with the volume of exports reaching X tons, which was near 64% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by South Africa (X tons), mixing up a 24% share of total exports. Tunisia (X tons), Mozambique (X tons) and Mauritius (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to amino resin exports from Egypt stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Mauritius (+93.2%), Mozambique (+21.4%), South Africa (+20.7%) and Tunisia (+18.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Mauritius emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +93.2% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of South Africa, Tunisia, Mozambique and Mauritius increased by +18, +3.9, +2.6 and +2.2 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), South Africa ($X) and Tunisia ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 90% of total exports. Mauritius and Mozambique lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 5.7%.

Mauritius, with a CAGR of +77.2%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -7.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a pronounced downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 65% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Tunisia ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Mozambique (-0.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in Africa

In 2022, supplies from abroad of amino resins decreased by -15.1% to X tons for the first time since 2011, thus ending a ten-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when imports increased by 50%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2021, and then declined remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, amino resin imports expanded modestly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 70%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

The purchases of the three major importers of amino resins, namely Egypt, Algeria and South Africa, represented more than half of total import. It was distantly followed by Nigeria (X tons) and Morocco (X tons), together creating a 13% share of total imports. Zambia (X tons), Angola (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Zimbabwe (X tons) and Mauritania (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Egypt (with a CAGR of +49.0%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Egypt ($X), Algeria ($X) and South Africa ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, together comprising 71% of total imports.

Egypt, with a CAGR of +50.3%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 24% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a perceptible shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 28%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Morocco ($X per ton), while Zambia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
