Morocco dominates exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2022. Egypt (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Morocco increased at an average annual rate of +4.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Egypt (+46.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Egypt emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in Africa, with a CAGR of +46.7% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Tunisia (-1.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Egypt and Morocco increased by +3.3 and +2.4 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +7.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -7.1% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Total imports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.8% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +70.5% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 39%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Zimbabwe (X tons) took a 25% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Mali (9.7%) and Algeria (5.9%). Ghana (X tons), Zambia (X tons) and Mozambique (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Mozambique (with a CAGR of +91.8%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported monoammonium phosphate (MAP) in Africa, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Zimbabwe ($X), with a 24% share of total imports. It was followed by Mali, with a 5.9% share.

In South Africa, monoammonium phosphate imports increased at an average annual rate of +9.0% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Zimbabwe (+40.2% per year) and Mali (-4.9% per year).
