Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, aniline imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, imports faced a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 81% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Egypt was the key importer of aniline and its salts (excluding derivatives) in Africa, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 48% of total imports in 2021. Nigeria (X tons) took a 26% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Morocco (10%), Algeria (8%) and Mali (5.7%).
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Nigeria (with a CAGR of +94.6%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Algeria ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported aniline and its salts (excluding derivatives) in Africa, comprising 62% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Nigeria, with a 13% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Algeria totaled +85.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (+33.7% per year) and Nigeria (+75.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, rising by 65% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the import price increased by 133% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while Egypt ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
