Aniline Derivatives Market Size in Africa

In 2021, the African aniline derivatives market decreased by -5.4% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year rising trend. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, aniline derivatives production reduced slightly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the production volume increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, production attained the peak level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in Africa

In 2021, exports of aniline derivatives and their salts in Africa surged to X tons, growing by 32% compared with the previous year. Over the period under review, exports enjoyed a significant expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 393% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, aniline derivatives exports contracted to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 245% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then declined in the following year.

Exports by Country

Senegal represented the main exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kenya (X tons), making up a 33% share of total exports.

Senegal was also the fastest-growing in terms of the aniline derivatives and their salts exports, with a CAGR of +58.6% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kenya (+27.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Senegal (+67 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kenya saw its share reduced by -33.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Senegal ($X) remains the largest aniline derivatives supplier in Africa, comprising 69% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kenya ($X), with a 31% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Senegal totaled +99.6%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, shrinking by -33.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a deep reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 103%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Senegal ($X per ton), while Kenya stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Senegal (+25.8%).

Aniline Derivatives Imports

Imports in Africa

In 2021, approx. X tons of aniline derivatives and their salts were imported in Africa; falling by -42.1% against the previous year's figure. Overall, imports showed a pronounced shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 90% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2020, and then contracted significantly in the following year.

In value terms, aniline derivatives imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. In general, imports, however, enjoyed temperate growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 174%. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Imports by Country

Morocco was the key importer of aniline derivatives and their salts in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 60% of total imports in 2021. South Africa (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Senegal (X tons). All these countries together held near 32% share of total imports. Kenya (X tons) held a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Morocco decreased at an average annual rate of -5.5% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kenya (+31.2%), Senegal (+25.2%) and South Africa (+2.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kenya emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +31.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of Senegal (+11 p.p.), South Africa (+6.7 p.p.) and Kenya (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Morocco (-21.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, South Africa ($X), Morocco ($X) and Kenya ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 93% share of total imports.

Among the main importing countries, Kenya, with a CAGR of +26.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded resilient growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the import price increased by 55% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Senegal ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+15.2%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
