The African antimony ore and concentrate market soared to $X in 2021, picking up by 137% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded a deep contraction. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, antimony ore and concentrate exports dropped to $X in 2021. In general, exports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Zimbabwe dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was approx. 96% of total exports in 2021. The following exporters - South Africa (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - each finished at a 3.8% share of total exports.

Zimbabwe was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony ores and concentrates exports, with a CAGR of +6.8% from 2012 to 2021. Morocco (-9.8%) and South Africa (-38.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Zimbabwe increased by +82 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Zimbabwe ($X) emerged as the largest antimony ore and concentrate supplier in Africa, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by South Africa ($X), with a 1.5% share of total exports.

In Zimbabwe, antimony ore and concentrate exports expanded at an average annual rate of +21.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: South Africa (-41.7% per year) and Morocco (-8.0% per year).

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 40% against the previous year. In general, the export price recorded a noticeable increase. As a result, the export price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Zimbabwe ($X per ton), while Morocco ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Zimbabwe (+13.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of antimony ores and concentrates, when their volume increased by 576% to X tons. Overall, imports showed a resilient expansion. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, antimony ore and concentrate imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports posted strong growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The purchases of the one major importers of antimony ores and concentrates, namely Mozambique, represented more than two-thirds of total import.

Mozambique was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony ores and concentrates imports, with a CAGR of +14.8% from 2012 to 2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Mozambique increased by +25 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Mozambique ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antimony ores and concentrates in Africa.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Mozambique totaled +32.8%.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 49% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 an increase of 67%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

As there is only one major supplying country, the average price level is determined by prices for Mozambique.
