In value terms, antimony oxides exports declined markedly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports faced a significant decrease. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 162%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, South Africa (X tons) was the key exporter of antimony oxides in Africa, mixing up 99.9% of total export.
South Africa was also the fastest-growing in terms of the antimony oxides exports, with a CAGR of -34.8% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) also remains the largest antimony oxides supplier in Africa.

In 2022, overseas purchases of antimony oxides decreased by -9.5% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a three-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when imports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons, and then declined in the following year.
In value terms, antimony oxides imports skyrocketed to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, enjoyed mild growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 111% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Imports by Country
South Africa was the main importer of antimony oxides in Africa, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was approx. 73% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Egypt (X tons), comprising a 20% share of total imports. The following importers - Ghana (X tons) and Tunisia (X tons) - each accounted for a 4.3% share of total imports.
South Africa experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of antimony oxides. At the same time, Ghana (+35.4%), Tunisia (+24.0%) and Egypt (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Ghana emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in Africa, with a CAGR of +35.4% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Egypt, Ghana and Tunisia increased by +7, +2.3 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported antimony oxides in Africa, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Egypt ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Tunisia, with a 1.2% share.
In South Africa, antimony oxides imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Egypt (+5.5% per year) and Tunisia (+19.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 35% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 47%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in years to come.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Ghana ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by South Africa (+0.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
