The second position in the ranking was taken by Tanzania ($X), with a 24% share of total exports. It was followed by Zimbabwe, with a 12% share.
In South Africa, exports of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement decreased by an average annual rate of -27.2% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Tanzania (+34.8% per year) and Zimbabwe (-12.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country

Imports in Africa
In 2021, supplies from abroad of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement decreased by -20% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year rising trend. Overall, imports, however, saw prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 134% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports of reached the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, imports of articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement shrank to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated mild growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -15.9% against 2019 indices. It was distantly followed by Togo (X tons), comprising a 19% share of total imports. The following importers - Angola (X tons), Mali (X tons) and Sudan (X tons) - each reached a 6.1% share of total imports.
Ghana was also the fastest-growing in terms of the articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement imports, with a CAGR of +44.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Sudan (+32.4%), Mali (+16.8%) and Togo (+6.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Angola (-14.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Ghana (+64 p.p.), Togo (+2.2 p.p.) and Sudan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Angola saw its share reduced by -13.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Ghana ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported articles of asbestos-cement, of cellulose fibre-cement in Africa, comprising 50% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Togo ($X), with a 7.1% share of total imports. It was followed by Angola, with a 2.3% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Ghana totaled +47.1%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Togo (+2.0% per year) and Angola (-19.9% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 8.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 43% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
