In general, exports, however, recorded a abrupt slump. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

South Africa was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 48% of total exports. Mali (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Togo (X tons). All these countries together took near 44% share of total exports. The following exporters - Kenya (X tons) and Morocco (X tons) - together made up 4.7% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the key exporting countries, was attained by Togo (with a CAGR of +196.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) remains the largest polyethylene glycol wax supplier in Africa, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Mali ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Morocco, with a 2.7% share.

In South Africa, polyethylene glycol wax exports shrank by an average annual rate of -7.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Mali (0.0% per year) and Morocco (+18.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in Africa amounted to $X per ton, declining by -35.1% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, enjoyed a prominent increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 an increase of 137% against the previous year. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was South Africa ($X per ton), while Kenya ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Imports in Africa

In 2021, approx. X tons of artificial and prepared waxes of polyethylene glycol were imported in Africa; with an increase of 7% compared with the previous year's figure. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 27% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, polyethylene glycol wax imports expanded rapidly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a pronounced slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when imports increased by 13% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Egypt (X tons), distantly followed by Algeria (X tons), Nigeria (X tons), Tunisia (X tons) and South Africa (X tons) were the main importers of artificial and prepared waxes of polyethylene glycol, together creating 91% of total imports. Tanzania (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Tanzania (with a CAGR of +31.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Algeria ($X), Egypt ($X) and Tunisia ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together accounting for 69% of total imports. South Africa, Nigeria and Tanzania lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 22%.

Tanzania, with a CAGR of +24.3%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in Africa stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 3.6% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 23%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Algeria ($X per ton), while Nigeria ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
