The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 18%. The volume of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Nigeria (X tons), South Africa (X tons) and Algeria (X tons) represented roughly 46% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Tanzania (X tons), Egypt (X tons), Morocco (X tons), Ghana (X tons) and Kenya (X tons), together creating a 28% share of total imports. Sudan (X tons), Tunisia (X tons), Ethiopia (X tons), Guinea (X tons) and Libya (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Guinea (with a CAGR of +26.6%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, South Africa ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ball bearings in Africa, comprising 29% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Egypt ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Algeria, with a 9.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in South Africa was relatively modest. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Egypt (-4.3% per year) and Algeria (+0.2% per year).
